Director Sekhar Kammula’s latest film “Kuberaa” delivered mixed results. While it performed decently in Telugu, it failed to click with audiences in other languages—particularly the Tamil version, which turned out to be a major disappointment. Overall, the film fell short of being a blockbuster.
Sekhar Kammula had high hopes for a pan-Indian success, especially given the critical acclaim the film received. However, the box office outcome didn’t meet his expectations. As a result, he is reportedly re-evaluating his approach for future projects and planning his next move with more caution.
Rather than shifting his filmmaking style to chase pan-India appeal, Sekhar Kammula is expected to return to his core strength—simple, emotion-driven stories enriched with soulful, popular music.
Sources say he intends to develop his next script with ample scope for people-pleasing songs, a hallmark of his earlier successes.
He has already initiated talks with actor Nani for a possible collaboration, but the project won’t go on floors anytime soon. Kammula is likely to take a longer creative break to carefully craft the script. He typically spends close to a year on scripting and pre-production, which aligns well with Nani’s current commitments, including the shooting of “The Paradise.”
