Actor Sivaji has finally issued an apology for his controversial remarks about actresses during a speech at the “Dhandoraa” event.
In his speech, he claimed that women are labelled with derogatory terms like “Daridrapu M*nda” if they wear revealing clothes and went on to suggest that women should cover their “saamanlu” (physical features).
The comments sparked widespread outrage, drawing strong reactions from netizens and celebrities alike. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, actor Manchu Manoj, and several others publicly slammed Sivaji for his remarks. The collective Voice of Women, representing working women, actresses, producers, directors, and technicians, also demanded an unconditional apology from him.
Responding to the backlash, Sivaji posted a video apology today. He admitted that he should not have used the two “unparliamentary words” and expressed regret over his choice of language. He clarified that his comments were not aimed at all women, stating that he was referring specifically to actresses in the context of recent incidents.
Sivaji concluded by saying that he has always respected women.
