Suriya has also decided to release ‘Aakashame Nee Haddhu Raa’ on a digital platform skipping theatrical window. Suriya is the first South Indian top star to take such a daring step of releasing his movie directly on the OTT.
Titled ‘Soorarai Pottru’ in Tamil, the biopic is directed by Sudha Kongara.
The movie was slated to release in Telugu and Tamil in the theaters in May 2020 but its release was stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic. After waiting for the crisis to end patiently, Suriya has relented to the digital release option. Announcing his decision to stream directly on Amazon prime, he said the decision was taken after his creative team has come to this conclusion.
Recently, Nani’s ‘V’ was also announced as a direct digital release. But Nani is considered as a medium-range star while Suriya belongs to the top league of stars in the Tamil industry. He has also urged exhibitors and his fans to understand the current situation that led him to take this decision.
Suriya also said he will donate about Rs 5 crore to cine workers by doing two more films quickly.
Suriya also released his wife’s movie on the digital platform recently which sparked a huge debate in Tamilnadu.
