The Conjuring 4: Hollywood horror scares away local movies

This weekend, the latest installment of the Conjuring franchise titled “The Conjuring: Last Rites” stormed the Indian box office, emerging as the biggest performer across all languages. The Hollywood horror blockbuster collected a massive Rs 35 crore in just two days (Friday and Saturday).
Among the local contenders, “Baaghi 4” and “Madhraasi,” which released alongside Conjuring, failed to make a significant impact. Both films showed underwhelming collections, as audience preference clearly tilted towards the supernatural horror extravaganza.
In the Telugu market, the small-budgeted film “Little Hearts” surprisingly topped the box office charts, performing well despite stiff competition. On the other hand, Anushka Shetty’s much-anticipated “Ghaati” turned out to be a non-starter, failing to attract crowds or generate noteworthy revenue in its opening weekend.
Meanwhile, the Malayalam movie “Lokah” continued its strong run in its second weekend, raking in Rs 15 crore over two days. This performance confirms its growing word-of-mouth appeal and endurance at the box office, positioning it as a steady performer amid the big releases.
