Veteran actress Jayanthi breathed her last. She died on Monday at her residence in Bengaluru. Jayanthi was 76. She had acted in about 500 films in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam languages.
Her real name was Kamala Kumari, but she became popular with her screen name Jayanthi. Born in Bellary, she began her career in Tamil and Telugu films.NTR’s ‘Jagadeka Veeruni Katha’ and ANR’s ‘Bharyabhartalu’ were her early films in Telugu.
She became a lead actress in Kannada in 1963. Jayanthi debuted as heroine in ‘Jenu Goodu.’ She went to act with then Kannada cinema’s legendary superstar Rajkumar in about 30 films.
In Telugu, she had acted in about 70 movies. Some of her popular Telugu movies are Jagadeka Veeruni Katha, Kula Gowravam, Devadasu, Badipantulu, Mayadari Malligadu, Kondaveeti Simham, Pedarayudu, among others.
