And it finally happened. Actor-turned-politician and TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a grand ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The swearing in ceremony was held today at 10AM. Along with him, nine ministers also took oath as part of the new cabinet.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, attended the ceremony, which drew national attention. One of the biggest highlights of the event was the presence of actress Trisha Krishnan. Dressed in a traditional silk saree, she waved to the massive crowd and enthusiastically cheered Vijay as he took oath.

Interestingly, Vijay’s wife, who recently filed for divorce, and his children were not seen at the ceremony. However, Vijay’s parents were present and blessed the occasion.

With this victory, Vijay has scripted political history by becoming the fourth major South Indian film superstar to rise to the post of Chief Minister after M. G. Ramachandran, N. T. Rama Rao, and J. Jayalalithaa. What legends like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan could not achieve politically, Vijay has accomplished in his very first major electoral battle.

His rise also comes at a time when several film stars struggled in politics. Chiranjeevi failed to sustain political momentum, while Pawan Kalyan continues to face limitations despite being in politics for over a decade.

It is also the first time in nearly six decades that a leader from a non-Dravidian party has become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam won 108 seats in the April 23 Assembly elections and secured power with the support of allies, ending 59 years of Dravidian-party dominance in the state.
