Prithviraj Sukumaran’s five must-watch films from five Indian industries

Malayalam star and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran, who made his Telugu debut with “Salaar” and is currently playing a key role in Rajamouli’s upcoming globe-trotting adventure “Varanasi”, recently shared his list of five must-watch films from five major Indian film industries.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Anupama Chopra, Prithviraj highlighted films that have had a lasting impact on him as a cinema lover and filmmaker.

1. “Deewar” (Hindi)

Prithviraj picked the 1975 Bollywood classic “Deewar,” calling it a film where every member of the team was at the top of their game. He also reiterated that he is a huge admirer of Amitabh Bachchan and considers the film a timeless masterpiece.

2. “Baahubali: The Beginning” (Telugu)

Choosing “Baahubali: The Beginning” as his Telugu pick, Prithviraj said the 2015 blockbuster was not only a brilliant piece of cinema but also inspired a generation of dreamers, including himself. He described it as a landmark film in Indian cinema.

3. “Om” (Kannada)

For Kannada cinema, he selected “Om,” the 1995 cult classic directed by Upendra and starring Shiva Rajkumar. Prithviraj revealed that it remains one of his all-time favorite films.

4. “Thevar Magan” (Tamil)

Prithviraj chose the 1992 Tamil classic “Thevar Magan,” starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Bharathan. Praising the film’s storytelling and performances, he remarked that it still feels better than many contemporary films.

5. “Bhoothakkannadi” (Malayalam)

Representing Malayalam cinema is the 1997 psychological drama “Bhoothakkannadi,” featuring Mammootty in the lead role. Prithviraj said Mammootty’s performance in the film is nothing short of a masterclass in acting.

The actor’s selections reflect his admiration for films that have left a lasting mark on Indian cinema across languages and generations.
