Weekend BO: ‘Single’ triumphs, ‘Subham’ performs modestly

Sree Vishnu is the winner. The actor returned to his forte, comedy films, and scored success after a string of flops. His experiments with previous films didn’t pay off. Hence, he acted in an out-and-out comedy film. That is “Single,” directed by Caarthik Raju and starred Ketika Sharma and Ivana as the female leads.

Single is a super hit

The weekend collections prove that the film struck with the audiences both in the Telugu states and in the USA.

In Hyderabad, it has emerged as the super hit. Even in Andhra, the film had an impressive run, collecting big money. In the USA, it went past $400k. This is the biggest amount for Sree Vishnu for his movie during the first weekend. Overall, “Single” in its first weekend has become a success and will end up as a super hit movie.

Subham has a modest run

On the other hand, Samantha’s maiden production, “Subham,” grossed a very modest amount. Though “Subham” was also a horror-comedy, audiences preferred Sree Vishnu’s mindless fun drama over it. Hence, “Subham” suffered collections despite receiving better reviews. Still, it is a profitable film for Samantha due to the OTT deal. From theaters, it collected a modest amount in Telugu states. In the USA, however, it surprised with its performance. After grossing $150k, the film is on track to break-even shortly.

HIT 3, no further gain

Nani starrer “HIT 3” during its second weekend has not benefited much. It had a decent run but not substantial growth. Overall, the film has become an average-grossing movie, with couple of areas registering losses.

Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari

Megastar Chiranjeevi and Sridevi starrer “Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari” had a re-release last weekend, competing with new films—Subham and Single—but it didn’t attract the audiences much. The collections were largely restricted to multiplexes in Hyderabad. It failed to post a big number.
