The title controversy surrounding SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film “Varanasi” has finally been resolved.
Rajamouli recently announced “Varanasi” as the title of his ambitious film starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. However, the title had already been registered by producer Subba Reddy much earlier. As per Film Chamber rules, a title that is already under registration cannot be allotted to another producer.
Despite this, Rajamouli’s team officially unveiled the title, prominently displaying the director’s name above it. The move prompted Subba Reddy to approach both the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce and the Telugu Film Producers Council, seeking a resolution.
The issue has now ended on a positive note. According to reports, Subba Reddy agreed to hand over the title to the makers of the Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu project.
Confirming the development, Telugu Film Producers Council secretary T. Prasanna Kumar said the matter had been settled amicably and appreciated Subba Reddy for his gesture.
With the dispute behind it, “Varanasi” can now officially move forward without any legal hurdles over its title. The film is scheduled for release on April 7, 2027.
