There is no respite for the Telugu film industry. For the past five weeks, there hasn’t been a single film that has drawn audiences to theaters. Even as the heatwave continues in both Telugu states, theaters are empty. If a decent film had been released, people would have rushed to the theaters to escape the heat for a few hours.
Last weekend, four new films were released in theaters, with “Aa Okkati Adakku” starring Allari Naresh standing out. It was also heavily promoted. Despite this, the film grossed very low amount. It did not collect even a reasonable amount to report.
Furthermore, USA collections are almost nothing. It’s a huge flop. The reviews for “Aa Okkati Adakku” were also extremely negative, with critics calling it a total bore.
The other notable film released last week was “Prasanna Vadanam”. Although the box office for this film was not particularly impressive, it received better reviews and a decent response. When the film premieres, it will have a better chance of being watched on OTT.
The other two films – Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar’s “Sabari” and Tamannaah and Raashi Khanna’s horror drama “Baak” – saw empty chairs in the theaters.
Raashi Khanna and Tamannaah Bhatia also promoted this dubbed movie in Hyderabad. The makers hoped that their glamorous avatar would appeal to young people. However, ‘Baak’ did not register any openings in AP or Telananga.
