Weekend Box Office: ‘Thammudu’ further damages Nithiin’s market

“Thammudu” may not have generated much pre-release hype, but there was still some hope that it would perform at least decently, thanks to director Venu Sriram’s track record. Known for films like “MCA” and “Vakeel Saab,” Sriram had shown an ability to connect with mass audiences to some extent. So, despite Nithiin’s recent string of flops, many expected “Thammudu” to emerge as at least an average grosser.

However, the first weekend results dashed all such hopes. The film not only flopped but also ended up as one of the lowest-grossing films in Nithiin’s recent career. The shockingly poor collections over the first three days have made it clear that the actor has lost considerable goodwill among audiences and fans alike.

Nithiin’s previous films, including “Extra” and “Robinhood,” also bombed at the box office, and Thammudu only worsens his streak. For producer Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations (SVC), this marks yet another setback. Despite multiple collaborations with Nithiin after their early success with “Dil,” the banner has failed to deliver a single hit for the actor.

No gain for Kannappa

Meanwhile, the failure of “Thammudu” didn’t benefit Manchu Vishnu’s “Kannappa.” The film failed to gain momentum in its second weekend, and its collections remained flat. After 10 days, “Kannappa” has grossed Rs 31 crore nett in India. In contrast, “Kuberaa,” now in its third weekend, added only a small amount to its total haul.
