Weekend Box Office: ‘The Girlfriend’ posts decent numbers

The weekend saw several Telugu and dubbed films hitting theaters, but only Rashmika Mandanna’s “The Girlfriend” managed to post a respectable performance. Thiruveer’s “The Great Pre-Wedding Show” benefited from positive word-of-mouth but couldn’t translate that into strong box office numbers. The rest of the releases vanished without a trace.

Despite its niche genre and the general struggle of female-centric films at the box office, The Girlfriend grossed over Rs 10 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. Rashmika’s star power clearly played a major role in drawing audiences, making it the best performer among this weekend’s releases.

Thiruveer’s The Great Pre-Wedding Show earned favorable reviews and enjoyed good talk, yet the actor’s limited box office appeal restricted its reach. Still, it managed to outperform Sudheer Babu’s film in North America.

Sudheer Babu’s “Jatadhara”, featuring Sonakshi Sinha in her Telugu debut, turned out to be a complete dud. Though it managed moderate collections domestically, the overall numbers were disappointing.

Dubbed releases like “Aryaan”, and small Telugu outings such as “Premistunna” and “Krishna Leela”, found no takers at all.
