Will Janhvi Kapoor overcome her cringe-glam image?

Janhvi Kapoor made her Telugu debut with Devara. Although the film turned out to be a hit, she was barely seen in it. Apart from two songs and a handful of scenes, her role in NTR’s film was minimal. Her character largely revolved around glamour.

Now, her second Telugu film, Peddi, which has generated even bigger hype, is set to release on June 4. However, the trailer presented her in what many viewers called an outdated and cringe-inducing manner. Scenes highlighting glamour and old-school romantic portions drew trolling on social media, even as Ram Charan’s makeover and the overall trailer received widespread praise.

Many are now wondering why Janhvi Kapoor has been choosing back-to-back glamour-centric roles in Telugu cinema.

While Janhvi has acted in several Hindi films, she is yet to score a major blockbuster in Bollywood. Most of her films either went directly to OTT platforms or ended up as average or below-par theatrical performers. In contrast, she found commercial success in Telugu with “Devara” and is now hoping to land a massive pan-Indian blockbuster with “Peddi.” Industry circles say this could be one of the reasons she agreed to such roles.

The bigger question now is whether she can break free from this glam-focused image in Telugu cinema. She is reportedly set to play the female lead in “Raaka” starring Allu Arjun.
