Babu Baga Busy – Movie Review

What’s it about!
Babu (Avasarala) is a middle-class guy and looks quite ordinary. But behind this façade of ordinary guy, there is a story. The story is about his many sexual escapades. Babu is a relentless skirt chaser. From teenage to his current age, he has had many flings with several women from a college girlfriend (Tejaswi), a house wife Chandrika(Supriya Aysola) to Saritha. He plans to settle down with one girl and their parents fix his wedding with Radha (Misti). What happens next? Will he keep his zip closed now? What will happen if Radha knows his “100 Not Out” score?

Analysis

An official remake of Bollywood ‘Hunterr’ (2015), this Avasarala Srinivas starrer is mostly faithful to the original. The premise of chronicling a sex-addict’s life looks interesting on paper but the narration is quite dull and boring. The movie has just 125 minutes of runtime but the flimsy storyline doesn’t even require such length. It feels longer than its runtime due to slow pace and repetitive scenes.

That he is player (flings with women) is already established in the beginning, there is no exciting stuff to look forward to it in the second half as he still continues to score more. The conflict – should he tell his escapades to Radha (Misti) or not is also not convincing.

Those who look forward to see “scenes” will also be disappointed as there is only (yes only one) titillating episode with Supriya. Rest is told with lame jokes and dull sequences.

Avasarala is sincere in his effort but he is totally misfit in this role. He looks too “matured” and also little older for this naughty character. There are many girls in the film but Tejaswi, Misti Chakraborty, Supriya Aysola and Sreemukhi occupy most space. Supriya has come up with some first rate acting. She has done the role of a frustrated wife looking for some joy in life quite well. Tejaswi appears all through the film with one-note expression. Misti lacks acting talent for the meaty character that she has got.  Sreemukhi is okay. Priyadarshi impresses as Avasarala’s friend.

Technically it is substandard. Movie is made with low production values. Music should have been catchy. Direction is tacky, though debutant director followed the same template of the original movie with a toned down sex scenes and lame jokes. Writing is pretty bad.

Bottom-line: ‘Babu Baga Busy’ has interesting concept but the overall effect is dreary. Despite occasional fine moments in the beginning, the film soon turns into a bore fest with slow-paced narration, weak writing. Though it is strictly for adults, the sex jokes are pretty lame. Totally disappointing.
