What’s it about?
Prasad (Allari Naresh) works in a bank in Seethanagaram in Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The nature of his job is appraising gold jewelry to sanction loans on mortgage. Twenty-five years ago, his grandfather Ramachari (Tanikella Bharani), an appointed goldsmith for the Ammavari temple in the village, utilizes the jewels belonging to the village deity for his personal use.
Ramachari’s last wish is to replace the jewelry before he dies.
Prasad wants to sell the land to make the jewelry for the temple. Due to some circumstances, he uses the mortgaged jewels to fulfill his grandfather’s wish in the hope that he can replace them soon. The mortgaged jewelry belongs to a local moneylender Nagaraju (Posani). When an NRI alliance comes for his daughter Kanaka Mahalaxmi’s wedding (Pooja Jhaveri), Nagaraju comes bank to take the jewelry. Prasad then lands in a big soup. What happens next?
Analysis
After tasting a series of flops, Allari Naresh tried experimenting with his hand at playing intense roles and acting in a crucial role in a big starrer movie lately. With the latest release ‘Bangaru Bullodu’, Allari Naresh has returned to the comedies, the genre that brought him popularity.
We are now in the year 2021. But the comedy scenes presented in ‘Bangaru Bullodu’ remind us of the 1990’s era. The director and writers are clearly stuck in a time warp. With such dated and clichéd ideas, what can we expect from this movie?
The thought behind the story that mortgaged jewels can be taken by the bank employees for personal usage is interesting. But the writer and directors have not applied their minds to come up with trendy lines, fresh jokes. Barring few jokes here and there, ‘Bangaru Bullodu’ has a galore of jaded comedy and outdated scenes. The film’s interval bang is a clear example of the director’s lack of screenwriting talent and narrative skills.
Coming to performances, Allari Naresh looks tired. He has done such roles before. Pooja Jhaveri as the village-belle is okayish.
Vennela Kishore appears in his usual avatar of the NRI bridegroom. Although his track is routine, he is the only one who registers in the audience’s mind as all others have acted silly.
Bottom-line: ‘Bangaru Bulloudu’ falls flat with outdated narration. The comedy doesn’t suit the evolving tastes of the audience. It tests the patience after a point.
