Vijay Deverakonda has been struggling to score a blockbuster lately. His stardom remains unquestionable which is proven again by the massive openings of his recent release “Kingdom”. But the film failed to sustain at the box office beyond its first weekend.
The issue, insiders say, is that his directors aren’t crafting films that connect with all sections of the audience. As a star, Vijay Deverakonda delivers big on opening day numbers. However, when the budget of his films crosses Rs100 crore and the collections drop sharply after the weekend, recovery becomes a challenge.
The actor is now gearing up for two new projects.
First on the floor will be Rahul Sankrityan’s period drama, set in the British-era Rayalaseema, which demands lavish sets and heavy visual effects. But there’s a strong buzz that the makers are considering a significant budget trim, either by reducing Vijay’s remuneration or cutting production costs.
Though he has multiple projects lined up, sources say his immediate two films will be mounted on more controlled budgets.
For Vijay Deverakonda, the priority is clear: deliver a theatrical hit that crosses the Rs 100 crore mark.
