Varanasi shooting progresses at Devara set

S. S. Rajamouli has temporarily shifted the shooting of his ambitious project “Varanasi” to Hyderabad due to delays in planned international schedules. The team had initially intended to film key portions in Antarctica and the Middle East, but ongoing global factors forced a change in plans.
As a result, the film’s production is currently progressing across multiple locations in Hyderabad. After wrapping up a schedule at the Aluminum Factory in Kondapur, the unit has now moved to Shamshabad for the next phase.
At a studio owned by Taher Cine Equipment, the makers are utilizing a massive water set that was originally constructed for Devara. Designed with blue mat technology for sea sequences, the same set is now being repurposed to shoot river Ganga episodes for Varanasi. This schedule is expected to continue for about a week.
Starring Mahesh Babu, the film is said to be a unique blend of mythology, history, and science fiction. The story reportedly follows a character named Rudhra from present-day Varanasi who travels back in time to the era of Lord Rama. Currently, Mahesh Babu is participating in high-octane river chase action sequences.
Despite schedule changes, the team is pushing ahead steadily to maintain momentum on this high-budget venture. “Varanasi” that also features Priyanka Chopra in the lead role is scheduled for April 7, 2027 release.
