USA 2025 BO: One $5M Telugu film, 15 profitable hits

After the Telugu states, North America continues to be the biggest overseas market for Telugu cinema. A major release has the potential to gross $15–20 million, while even mid-range and small-budget films can touch $3–5 million if the content connects with a wider audience. The market is large and promising, but content remains the deciding factor.

In 2025, more than 70 Telugu films released theatrically in North America. However, only one film crossed the prestigious $5 million mark, while just two films managed to enter the $3 million club.

The Biggest Hit of 2025

Pawan Kalyan had not seen a single film cross $2.5 million in North America until the release of “OG.” The gangster drama turned into a massive blockbuster overseas, grossing over $5 million and emerging as the highest-grossing Telugu film in North America this year. The film once again proved that with the right content, Pawan Kalyan can draw huge crowds and collections. Notably, “OG” remained the only Telugu film to cross the $5 million mark in 2025.

While Tamil and Bollywood films posted strong numbers this year, Telugu cinema saw relatively lower collections, with “OG” standing tall at the top.

The $3 Million Club

With “Sankranthiki Vastunnam,” Venkatesh scored the biggest hit of his career, both domestically and overseas, joining the $3 million club. Young actor Teja Sajja also continued his dream run, delivering a second consecutive blockbuster that grossed over $3 million in North America. This achievement marks a significant milestone in his career.

Nani: Big Gross, But No Profits

Nani has been one of the most consistent performers in recent years, with his market expanding steadily. His films now guarantee a minimum of $1.5 million in the USA. However, with rising success comes higher acquisition prices. As a producer, Nani scored a solid hit with “Court” in North America. But as a lead actor, profitability remained elusive.
“HIT: The Third Case” (HIT 3) grossed an impressive $2.3 million, yet distributors incurred losses due to the high purchase price.

Vijay Deverakonda Misses, Akhanda 2 Ends Balayya’s Streak

Vijay Deverakonda continued to go through a rough phase, failing to deliver a clean hit despite strong openings. “Kingdom” showcased his pulling power with nearly $1 million from premiere shows alone. However, the film collapsed after the first weekend and ended its run as a flop, despite grossing around $1.7 million.

Nandamuri Balakrishna began the year on a high with “Daaku Maharaj,” which grossed a strong $1.5 million in North America. However, he ended the year with a major setback. “Akhanda 2” turned out to be a disaster, even after crossing the $1 million mark, resulting in losses of over ₹5 crore for the North American distributor.

Small Films, Big Profits

Several small and medium-budget films emerged as profitable ventures. Rashmika Mandanna’s “The Girlfriend” grossed around $700k, while Sree Vishnu’s “Single” and Samantha-produced “Subham” performed well commercially.

Films like Kiran Abbavaram’s “K-Ramp,” Nara Rohit’s “Sundarakanda,” Bellamkonda Srinivas’s “Kishkindhapuri,” and Thiru Veeru’s “The Great Pre-Wedding Show” also posted impressive numbers relative to their budgets, proving once again that smart content can deliver solid returns in North America.
