Virata Parvam posts low numbers in the first weekend

Rana and Sai Pallavi starrer ‘Virata Parvam’ won good appreciation, especially from serious film lovers and social activists. Director Venu Udugula has been getting applauded for his sincere and honest filmmaking. He captured the 90’s Naxalism period well. But sadly, the majority of the theater-going public (mainly youth) are not aware of the Naxals period and have not stepped out to watch this film.

Despite winning fairly good reviews and appreciation, the film has collected just Rs 2.5 crore (share) in Telugu states in the first weekend. On the other hand, the film grossed about $165k (Rs 1.67 crore gross) in the USA.

The collection was too low despite having Sai Pallavi and Rana as the lead actors. As our critic wrote in his review, it is a niche film, which may only work for limited audiences. The box office result is reflecting the same.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ had a solid run in the theaters. On its third weekend, Kamal Haasan’s film was able to draw good numbers. It is a blockbuster for Kamal Haasan as the film has raked in about Rs 15 crore share in Telugu states. The film’s rights were bought by the Telugu producers for Rs 6 Crore. It has collected more than double.

Nani’s ‘Ante Sundaraniki’ (flop) and Adivi Sesh’s ‘Major’ (super hit) are in the final stages of their theatrical run.
