Weekend BO: Acharya turns out to be a disaster

Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan

Let’s face it. ‘Acharya’ didn’t raise many expectations before the release even though it starred Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan together. The film’s trailer received a mixed response, and only one song went viral. Still, no one expected it to be a big dud.

Released on April 29, ‘Acharya’ turned out to be the biggest flop in recent times. Though films like ‘Radhe Shyam’ bit the dust, they at least had posted decent amounts in the first weekend. ‘Acharya’, on the other hand, saw a fall in collections on the second day itself. It didn’t see any growth on Sunday either.

Altogether, the film was declared a disaster on the first weekend itself. In AP and Telangana, the film is estimated to have collected mere Rs 28 crore (share). And it collected about $940k (approx) in the USA. Directed by Koratala Siva, ‘Acharya’ has seen the same trend of low collections in all regions. It is a universal failure.

Despite having two big stars – Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan – in the lead roles, the film could not post respectable numbers.

The film’s colossal failure sent shockwaves in the industry. More than its failure, a dull opening on the first day is a worrying factor for the trade.
