‘Ugram’ is an exciting action thriller: Naresh

So far, Naresh has appeared in 60 films. “Ugram”, which releases in the theaters this weekend (May 5), is his 60th as an actor and also the second collaboration with director Vijay Kanakamedala after successful “Naandi”. Naresh reflects on his career and discusses the movie.

How would you rate your acting career?

I had an absolutely fantastic career. The journey was not entirely smooth; there were speed bumps and obstacles, but overall it was rewarding. I was fortunate to be directed by legends such as K Vishwanath, Bapu, Vamsy, and Krishna Vamsi. I started out as a comedy actor, but I’m really enjoying this new phase of my career.

You’ve successfully transitioned to serious roles with “Naandi”…

My performance in Mahesh Babu’s “Maharshi” gave me confidence that I could play serious roles. “Naandi” changed my life. Following the release of “Ugram,” I am confident that young directors will approach me with more diverse ideas.

You look so confident in “Ugram”…

Yes, each technician’s craft will be discussed. Aside from the story and direction, their work is the main attraction. I play a character with three distinct shades. The story takes place over a five-year period.

I play a guy who falls in love, then gets married and has a daughter. The transformation is perfect. My director asked me to gain weight in order for me to appear authentic as a father to a young child. The film is about missing people. I’m a police officer. However, this cop gets himself into a lot of trouble. When a police officer encounters a problem, who will he turn to? This is the crux of the “Ugram” concept. Vijay Kanakamedala directed the film as a suspenseful thriller. It’s a high-octane action drama.

Was it difficult for you to perform action stunts?

No. Actually, comedy sequences are more difficult to perform than action sequences.

Do you intend to make sequels to your films?

When I recently met Anil Ravipudi, he suggested that a sequel to “Sudigaadu” be made. He was an assistant on the film. But, I joked, you want me to do comedy again now that I’ve switched to serious roles. Perhaps I should make a sequel to my father EVV Satyanarayana’s hit comedy, Alibaba Aradozen Dongalu.

What are your upcoming projects?

A film starring ‘Jathi Ratnalu’ Faria is on the sets. Two more films are in the works.
