Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman’s maiden film as a scriptwriter is ’99 Songs’. He also co-produced the musical. The film had a simultaneous release in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages on Friday amid the second wave of COVID-19. So, the film’s release didn’t make any impact at the box office.

Some prominent critics did not even care to post a review about this film due to the pandemic situation. Those who have seen have declared that the film is a boring musical with beaten-to-death sequences.

As usual, Rahman’s terrific soundtrack and the lavish production values have come in praise. The film, in general, got thumbs down.

’99 Songs’ featured newcomer Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas as the lead pair. Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy directed the film, who is now going to direct the ‘Baahubali’ series for Netflix.
