After facing heavy backlash over proposed ticket price hikes, the distributors and makers of War 2 and Coolie have dropped the plan. Both films will now screen at regular ticket prices, and advance bookings officially opened in Hyderabad on the evening of August 12.
The delay in opening bookings was reportedly due to the confusion surrounding pricing.
Earlier, social media was abuzz with criticism of the proposed hikes, especially since both titles are dubbed films. Netizens questioned why non-original language releases should carry premium ticket rates.
However, in Andhra Pradesh, ticket prices have still been raised, with “Coolie” seeing a particularly steep hike. The Rajinikanth starrer enjoys political backing from the ruling party, with the superstar sharing close ties with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and being embraced by the TDP as their own.
