Kajal Aggarwal’s latest Hindi film, The India Story, has got off to a disappointing start at the box office. The female-led drama reportedly collected just Rs 18 lakh gross on its opening day, making it one of the weakest openings for a Hindi film.
head of the release, Kajal actively promoted the film through several YouTube interviews and media interactions. Despite the promotional push, the film failed to attract audiences to theaters.
According to trade estimates, The India Story was made on a budget of around Rs 20 crore. With an opening day gross of only Rs 18 lakh, the film faces an uphill battle at the box office. Given its poor opening, the film may struggle to gross even Rs 1 crore by the end of the opening weekend.
The film’s Telugu version, which was expected to release simultaneously, was reportedly stalled at the last minute.
The poor opening once again highlights the challenges faced by female-centric films in drawing audiences to theaters, with only a handful of actresses in recent years managing to deliver strong openings on the strength of their star power alone.
