Karan Johar is one of the top filmmakers in India. He has lately been focusing more on production activities than direction. His production company, Dharma Productions, is behind many Bollywood movies and has introduced top names like Alia Bhatt.
Karan Johar also presented NTR’s “Devara” in the Hindi market and “Baahubali” before that. However, his production company has been facing financial difficulties due to a string of unsuccessful films.
Karan sold 50% of his stake in the company to Adar Poonawala, the owner of the vaccine-making company Serum Institute of India, which gained popularity during the COVID-19 era. Adar Poonavala officially announced the deal after purchasing 50 percent of the stake for Rs 1000 crore.
Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar’s father, founded Dharma Productions in 1979, and its first production was “Dostana,” starring Amitabh Bachchan. The company has since produced over 60 movies.
