Anu Emmanuel, known for her glamorous roles in Telugu and Tamil cinema, has taken a refreshing turn with “The Girlfriend,” directed by Rahul Ravindran. In the film, she played Durga, a strong-minded woman who stands by the female lead played by Rashmika Mandanna.

The film is running in theaters now.

“I’ve worked with many top stars including Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, Nani, Naga Chaitanya, Sivakarthikeyan, Karthi, and Vishal. But looking back, I do regret doing a few films. They didn’t give me artistic satisfaction. The Girlfriend was different. It conveyed a meaningful message about women and gave me creative fulfillment,” Anu said.

Speaking about gender expectations, she remarked, “Women face endless conditions—how to talk, what to wear, when to marry, when to have children. Men only deal with pressure about their job or income.”

Reflecting on her career, she added, “I still feel a little unsatisfied as far as career is concerned. But I’m content with life. I’ve never been desperate for roles; I believe the right projects will find me. I do have a few films in discussion, but it’s too early to reveal details.”
