Music composer Bappi Lahiri passes away


Veteran music composer Bappi Lahiri, who ruled Bollywood and the Indian film music industry in the 1980s and 90s, is no more. He has died at a hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday night at the age of 69.

Known as Disco King, Bappi Lahiri was a pioneer of the disco genre in Bollywood. ‘Disco Dancer was a rage. Songs like ‘Koi Yaha Naache Naache’ from Disco Dancer became a sensation.

He continued scoring many hits in Bollywood that include ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Namak Halaal’, ‘Sharaabi’, ‘Dance Dance’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Tarzan’, ‘Aankhen’, etc.

In 1986, he debuted in Tollywood with Superstar Krishna’s ‘Simhasanam’, which was a runaway success. Songs like ‘Aakasamlo Oka Taara’ played in every corner in Andhra Pradesh back then.

Megastar Chiranjeevi starrer ‘Gang Leader’ was another sensational album from him. In the early 1990s, he ruled the Telugu film music with a series of hits like ‘Rowdy Gaari Pellam’, ‘Rowdy Inspector’, and ‘Nippu Ravva’.

He scored music for more than 25 films. His other popular Telugu musical albums are ‘Brahma’, ‘Thene Manasulu’, and ‘Punyabhoomi Naa Desam’.
