Ram Charan’s “Peddi” has made its way into Netflix’s global Top 10 list following its digital premiere, but its viewership numbers have been modest for a film of its scale.
After completing a month-long theatrical run, “Peddi” began streaming on Netflix on July 9. In its first week, the film recorded 1.9 million views, securing the No. 5 spot among Netflix’s non-English films. It also featured in the Top 10 rankings across nine countries.
While the global ranking is encouraging, the viewership tells a different story.
Sunny Deol’s Ikka, which premiered on Netflix a day later on July 10, topped 4.4 million views in its debut week and ranked No. 2 on the global non-English films chart. Likewise, Kapil Sharma’s Daadi Ki Shaadi recorded 2.2 million views in its second week, placing fourth, ahead of Peddi.
Despite trending globally, “Peddi” has not generated the kind of OTT viewership typically expected from a high-budget pan-Indian film led by a star like Ram Charan.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, “Peddi” stars Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead. The sports drama received mixed reviews during its theatrical run but went on to gross around Rs 340 crore worldwide.
