OG: USA distributor clarifies limited screen count after backlash

Pawan Kalyan’s highly anticipated film “OG” has generated tremendous hype, crossing the $1 million mark in North America even 20 days before its premiere shows. The advance ticket sales for the North American premiere shows reached $1.2 million so far. However, in recent days, sales have stalled, raising concerns among Pawan Kalyan’s fans.

Many had expected “OG” to set a new all-time record for an Indian film’s premiere show collections in North America, but the current trend suggests even reaching the $2 million mark could be challenging. For comparison, Prabhas’ “Kalki 2898 AD” grossed over $3.8 million in North America during its premiere shows, setting a high benchmark, while “Coolie” and “Pushpa 2” crossed $3 million each.

With 14 days remaining before the premiere shows conclude, there is still time for a pickup in bookings. However, due to the current hype, fans have begun targeting the USA distributor, Prathyangira Cinemas, for not opening enough screens and locations to accommodate the overwhelming demand.

In response to the backlash, Prathyangira Cinemas issued an official statement via X.com.

The clarification explained that the AMC chain of theaters is currently not allowing the screenings until the official content is delivered, due to recent procedural issues. The distributor expressed hope that, once the content arrives in the US, they will be able to expand the number of shows and satisfy audience demand.

Meanwhile, the makers of OG, directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Danayya, are planning a grand pre-release event soon. The gangster drama, featuring Pawan Kalyan, Priyanka Mohan, and Emraan Hashmi, is slated for release on September 25, with the North American premiere set for September 24.
