The announcement of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It should have been announced last year. In 2018, Bollywood legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan received this prestigious award.

Superstar Rajinikanth made his acting debut in 1975 in director Balachander’s Tamil film, ‘Apoorva Ragangal’. He began his acting career as a villain and went on to become a superstar within a couple of years of his debut. He has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages. His daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya are also into the film business. The elder daughter is a director and the younger one is a producer-director. His son-in-law Dhanush is a renowned star.

Rajinikanth was earlier conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award. Dada Saheb Phalke is the highest award in Indian cinema.

Rajinikanth will next be seen in ‘Annaatthe’. The film’s shoot is in progress.
