For the past four to five years, Ram Gopal Varma has mostly kept himself busy producing political short films in Telugu and stirring controversies on social media. However, he is now making a full-fledged return to direction, and to Bollywood.
RGV has already begun shooting a film with Manoj Bajpayee, which is expected to hit theaters in early 2026.
Meanwhile, strong buzz suggests that he has also pitched the story for the fourth installment of his highly successful “Sarkar” franchise to Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. While the original “Sarkar” was a massive blockbuster, its sequels Sarkar 2 and Sarkar 3 had moderate success. Now, RGV is reportedly excited about reviving the franchise with “Sarkar 4.”
Known as the filmmaker who revolutionized Telugu cinema with “Shiva” and introduced several top talents to Bollywood, Ram Gopal Varma is still regarded as a visionary. Although his recent political films and controversial online persona may have diluted his appeal among the younger generation, he continues to command immense respect from his peers and from audiences who grew up on his 90s classics.
