Veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj, best known for his iconic role as Kattappa in “Baahubali”, has publicly criticized Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan for his recent remarks during a visit to Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at an event, Sathyaraj said, “We won’t allow politics in Tamil Nadu in the name of God. You can’t fool the followers of Periyar. Tamil people are smart. Your tricks won’t work here.”
He further warned that attempts to use religion as a tool to garner votes would fail in Tamil Nadu, a state deeply rooted in rationalist and Dravidian ideologies.
Sathyaraj’s comments have ignited a heated debate, with his stern message to Pawan Kalyan seen as a clear pushback against religious politics.
Pawan Kalyan’s remarks, made during the BJP-organized “Murugan Manadu” event in Tamil Nadu, included a defense of Sanatana Dharma and criticism of atheism and secularism. Pawan Kalyan’s comments didn’t sit well with many in the state. Sathyaraj made these remarks in this backdrop.
