SSMB29: Slow production, release plans pushed!

For the first time, director Rajamouli began shooting a film without an official media statement or press meet. So far, all updates about this project — from casting details to production progress — have come via social media posts from the stars involved or reports from enthusiastic journalists.

The latest we have learned that the untitled film (SSMB29) is already facing production hurdles at this early stage, making its initial release target unlikely. It now seems the film won’t be ready until the second half of 2027.

Mahesh Babu’s fans had hoped that Rajamouli would complete the project swiftly, with a release in late 2026, since principal photography began in January 2025. However, delays have altered those expectations.

The film, an adventure thriller scripted by SS Kanchi and Rajamouli and inspired by Wilbur Smith’s novels, features Mahesh Babu in an Indiana Jones–style role. The cast also includes Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Produced by KL Narayana, SSMB29 will have music composed by MM Keeravani.
