Upasana Konidela, entrepreneur and wife of Ram Charan, has found herself at the center of a heated social media debate. At an event in IIT Hyderabad, she advised young women to freeze their eggs and focus on becoming financially independent before planning a family, citing her own experience as an example.
“The biggest insurance for women is to save your eggs. Today, I stand on my own two feet, I earn a living for myself,” she said.
Her comments have triggered strong criticism from doctors as well as netizens.
Many medical professionals pointed out that Upasana is not a doctor and should not be giving fertility advice. Some doctors noted that egg freezing does not guarantee successful pregnancy later, while others highlighted the high cost of the procedure, something someone with Upasana’s wealth can afford but not the average woman.
Social commentators also expressed concern, saying her statements could mislead young urban women and promote an unhealthy trend if taken at face value.
Upasana, who married Ram Charan in 2012, welcomed her first child, a daughter, in 2023. She is currently pregnant with their second child.
