Ustaad Bhagat Singh first weekend box office: Shockingly weak numbers

“Ustaad Bhagat Singh” has ended its extended first weekend on a disappointing note, triggering wide discussion in trade circles.

Starring Pawan Kalyan, the film managed only modest collections in Andhra Pradesh and underperformed in Telangana, while failing to make any impact in overseas markets. The four-day worldwide gross stands at around Rs 80 crore, with India contributing approximately Rs 71 crore and overseas about Rs 9 crore.

Given its reported theatrical business of Rs 135 crore, the film now faces an uphill task to reach the break-even mark. Trade analysts believe recovery looks highly unlikely unless there is a dramatic turnaround.

Dhurandhar 2 impact

One of the major reasons for the dull performance is the dominance of “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” (Dhurandhar 2) which has captured audience attention across markets. While “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” initially held steady in Andhra Pradesh, it lost momentum after the opening weekend.

In Telangana, the situation was even tougher, with shows witnessing poor occupancy, including in Hyderabad, as the Hindi blockbuster continued its strong run.

Shocking result in North America

The biggest setback, however, came from North America. Typically, Pawan Kalyan’s films register over $1 million from premiere shows alone. But this film could not even touch that mark over the entire weekend, collecting only about $725K (Rs 6.8 crore). This is among the lowest figures in his career and has come as a major shock to trade circles, especially since the USA rights are valued at around Rs 12 crore.

Directed by Harish Shankar, the film also stars Sreeleela and Raashi Khanna, and is produced by Mythri Movie Makers.
