Female professionals and aspiring candidates have taken the biggest hit from Covid-related cuts in numerous industries. Technology might just be able to give them all a different chance.
Virtual Career Fair Highlights Possibilities for Women in Tech
The Women in Technology (WiT) India Forum announced a virtual career fair for November 27. Named WiT Ignite, its team will manage and promote the event on behalf of the Hyderabad WiT chapter supported by Optum Global Solutions, an innovative health services.
The virtual career fair will see more than 50 of the leading companies operating in the innovations and technology sectors. Showcasing more than 1000 real jobs for Women, the event – called WiT Ignite – is expected to attract more than 50 thousand participants.
Microsoft, Facebook, Sapient, Qualcomm and many others are merely some examples of tech giants which have declared officially their presence at the event. WiT’s Hyderabad office expects a wide range of young women professionals or recent graduates, with online counseling and preparatory training courses made available both for pre-registered participants and those “attending” virtually on the day of the event.
This is the latest of a series of initiatives in support of highly qualified female workers in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM). A virtual job fair doubtlessly suits the new digital reality of smart intellectual work. Many traditional economic sectors have been growing mostly online or have moved completely online.
As consumers started moving much of their spending online, a whole new digical universe of services (and products) has become more visible. Active female communities work and grow in fintech, healthtech, Internet of Things (IoT) and data analytics. Even online entertainment has switched over decisively to a digital dimension, as the best online casino alternatives have started offering original desi content besides timeless game classics.
Covid-Recession and Post-Pandemic Growth: STEM Education Is Key
A statistically relevant fact is that about half of all employed women (globally) have had to deal with domestic pressure or have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and the related economic slowdown. The health-related recession led to the closure of schools and day-care centers, resulting in an everyday burden shared mostly by women, whether they had a job or not.
Females in STEM and innovation tech fields need further support in reaching acceptable levels of inclusion in the workplace. The gender diversity gap is evident especially in India where the educational system has the reputation of a global leader in STEM – yet ranking 112 out of 153 countries offering equal opportunities.
Increasing female professional inclusion in STEM and technology is crucial for the young professionals of tomorrow, as well as for India as a whole. The WiT Ignite smart event will take place as a specially dedicated career fair, providing employers with pre-assessed candidates ranked according to proprietary AI tools and skills evaluations.
Supported by NASSCOM as well, and with Microsoft as an Exclusive Learning Partner, fair participants will have the chance to talk directly to hiring managers and participate in qualification experiences. Enrollment is still open for some free courses as well.
