What’s it about?
Karthik (Narne Nithiin) goes back to his hometown and begins remote work following the conclusion of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hari and Subbu, who were childhood friends, experience joy at Karthik’s arrival. Complications arise when Karthik develops a liking for the same girl whom Subbu has been attempting to propose to for the past few years.
Pallavi (Nayan Sarika) is a popular social media star in the town, and he develops an immediate liking for Karthik. She consents to Karthik’s proposition under the assumption that he shares the same caste as her, as he is a friend of Subbu, who is a member of her caste. Pallavi, however, has agreed to marry someone her parents have chosen after discovering that Karthik does not belong to her caste.
What is the reason behind Pallavi’s strong emphasis on caste, and how does their love story ultimately conclude with a positive outcome?
Analysis
Magic begins where logic ends”—the quotation comes at the start of the film, implying that the film primarily relied on magic rather than logic. According to this assertion, “Aay” makes a concerted effort to elicit laughter. It’s a delightful movie set in the COVID-19 era.
The story is exceedingly simple; however, the narration is entertaining. The new director prioritized comedic elements, disregarding any other aspects. He effectively generates numerous humorous moments throughout the majority of the movie.
Some of the comedic situations, such as the episode on the bridge when the heroine selects the hero as her lover instead of Subbu, are really funny. However, other episodes, like the one where the manager of the software firm has a video conference with the hero’s maid, appear somewhat foolish. Several episodes in the latter half disregard logical consistency, and the comedic portions also become monotonous. Still, the film concludes with a neat resolution, which ultimately makes it a satisfying viewing experience.
Narne Nithiin, the brother-in-law of young tiger NTR, has played the main lead, and he fits neatly in the role of Karthik. This is a simple role for this young actor, and he is convincing. But he needs to hone his acting skills. Nayan Sarika is well-suited for the role of an Instagram star. Rajkumar Kasireddy in the role of Subbu steals the show. He gets a prominent role, and he shines in that. Another friend, played by Ankith Koyya, is equally hilarious. The film primarily revolves around these four characters. Vinod Kumar, the hero’s father, becomes prominent in the climax.
The picturesque setting of the Konasaeema region of Andhra Pradesh has added richness to the frames, with the cameraman capturing them beautifully. The music complements the storyline. The new director, Anji, shows promise as far as comedic writing is concerned.
Bottom line: “Aay” is a film that provides time pass moments. Don’t expect much from this, but it sure does entertain with his comedy portions. A simple but fun movie.
