Dhootha (Web series) review: Makes an okay watch

Dhootha

“Dhootha” is Naga Chaitanya’s first foray into OTT content, and it’s an 8-part web series directed by the “Manam” director Vikram Kumar. In the web series, which is out on Amazon Prime Video, multiple events are set in motion that suggest the existence of super natural components.

The central theme, however, is around the domino effect, which happens to be leitmotif in Vikram Kumar’s work.

Naga Chaitanya portrays a journalist who is initially successful, taking on the post of editor of the Samachar newspaper. However, as the story develops, his other side is exposed.

Several newspaper articles foretelling people’s deaths keep our attention in the first episode, which is riveting. How are newspaper crosswords able to foretell tragic events? We are captivated and kept engaged by this initial setup. But as the story unfolds, the narrative’s flaws become apparent especially the ending is hardly convincing.

The ominous atmosphere is heightened by the rain that falls throughout the story set in Vizag. Naga Chaitanya, Parvathy and others have given convincing performances.

Overall, “Dhootha” makes an okay watch, with initial episodes are more interesting than the later ones.
