Two star-studded biggies – War 2 and Coolie – hit theaters on August 14th. Despite criticism for their formulaic storytelling, both films rode high on the charisma of their leading stars.
On opening day, Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” dominated. But on Day 2, Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s “War 2” surged with a massive jump in collections. However, fortunes flipped again on Saturday.
On Day 3, “War 2” witnessed a sharp dip, especially in Telugu states, leaving its Hindi markets as the main contributor. As a result, its third-day numbers fell short of Coolie. Meanwhile, “Coolie” remained steady both in India and overseas, pushing its worldwide gross close to Rs 300 crore. It was written off prematurely on social media with heavy trolling of director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
In the USA, “Coolie” is also inching towards the $6 million milestone.

Both films now pin high hopes on Sunday, the crucial day of the long weekend. But as of now, Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” clearly holds the upper hand, both domestically and internationally. In fact, it is miles ahead.
