Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu had earlier delivered three hits together: Simha, Legend, and Akhanda. Naturally, expectations were high when “Akhanda 2” was announced, and the film’s business reflected that, happening at a staggering price. However, the film failed to create any real impact at the box office, with even fans not turning up in big numbers.
With reviews and word of mouth turning negative, the film had little chance of sustaining. As a result, “Akhanda 2” took nearly four weekends to reach the $1 million mark in North America. On Saturday, December 27, the film finally crossed the milestone.
This became the fifth consecutive film for Nandamuri Balakrishna to achieve a $1 million gross in North America. However, the achievement does not translate into success.
Much like its performance in the domestic market, “Akhanda 2” has turned out to be a big flop in North America as well. While crossing the $1 million mark has marginally reduced losses, it offers little real relief to the distributors.
