Day 1: RRR posts astonishing record numbers

Rajamouli’s movies get ‘earth shattering’ (as Bollywood people put it) openings. That is a trend we have been witnessing for many years now. Not just with top stars, he has created the same buzz with a film that starred housefly. So, it was expected that his latest release ‘RRR’ which featured the biggest superstars – NTR and Ram Charan would demolish all records. And, the film has posted humungous numbers than expected.

‘RRR’ set records in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and overseas. No record is left to be conquered. In fact, the film has collected so much money on the first day that it would be not easy to be broken.

In Telangana, the film has collected about Rs 21 crore on the first day, a mammoth record. The record-holder in the region is Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Bheemla Nayak’. ‘RRR’ grossed nearly Rs 10 more than ‘Bheemla Nayak’ on the first day. Besides hype, brand Rajamouli, and the two superstars, abnormal ticket prices have contributed to this mammoth figure.

The film equally set new records in all districts in Andhra Pradesh. The collections are uniformly mammoth in AP.

In the USA, Rajamouli broke his record. ‘RRR’ collected more than 5 million dollars on the first day (including premiere shows), a million higher than ‘Baahubali 2’. The same case in Australia, the UK, and other overseas territories.

However, the film has not set any records in the Hindi belt. It has collected impressive numbers in North India as well but a lot less than ‘Saaho’. In Tamilnadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, ‘RRR’ posted good numbers, not big.

Altogether, ‘RRR’ grossed record collection on the first day worldwide.

Starring NTR and Ram Charan as the freedom warriors, ‘RRR’ is directed by Rajamouli and produced by DVV Danayya. While some critics poured lavish praises with stunning ratings, other critics said it is just another packaged movie.

Even for the Hindi version, the reviews were mixed. While Bollywood critic Taran Adarsh said the film is terrific, NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee wrote, “The film rings hollow because it never pauses for breath and does not grant its two male protagonists anything akin to recognizable human qualities although they do constantly harp on love and longing.”
