Samantha is back in style. Her comeback film “Maa Inti Bangaaram” has emerged as a clear winner at the box office, turning into a super hit within its first weekend itself.
The film grossed an impressive Rs 38 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. Strong word-of-mouth and family audience support helped collections surge on Saturday and Sunday across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, pushing its India gross to Rs 26 crore.
Overseas, the film delivered equally impressive numbers. In North America alone, it crossed the $1 million (Rs 10 Cr) mark within just three days. The film also performed well in other territories, cementing its status as a commercial success. Notably, it is the first Telugu film to register a clean hit in North America after the Sankranthi season, with several recent big-ticket releases, including “Peddi”, flopping.
The success carries special significance for Samantha. “Maa Inti Bangaaram” marks her return as a lead actress after a three-year gap. It is also her second venture as a producer and her first major box-office success in that role.
Directed by Nandini Reddy and co-written by Samantha’s husband Raj Nidimoru, the film struck a chord particularly with women audiences, who enjoyed Samantha’s saree-clad action avatar. While the film did not receive overwhelmingly positive reviews, it largely escaped negative talk, helping it attract steady crowds to theatres throughout the weekend.
