Last week’s releases ‘Thimmarusu’ and ‘Ishq’ had failed to attract the audiences to the theaters. Surprisingly, this weekend a small film called ‘SR Kalyanamandapam’ took bumper openings. Starring young actor Kiran Abbavaram, the film took about Rs 1.5 crore on the first day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The solid opening surprised the trade pundits. At a time when there is so much confusion about the theatrical business amid the fear of a possible third wave of coronavirus, this opening collection is terrific.
The movie’s songs went viral even before the release, and Kiran Abbavaram seems to have connected with the young audiences. He has successfully proved that he can pull the audience.
Although the film received lukewarm reviews from critics, the audiences coming to the theaters provides a boost to the theatrical business.
