New trend: Government officers as heroes!

At one time, protagonists playing faction leaders or rowdies was a common feature in the Telugu film industry. Being a police officer on screen is an all-season and all-time favorite for our Indian movie stars. Now, playing government officers or civil servant is in vogue. 

Ram Charan as a civil servant

Ram Charan’s recently launched #RC15 revolves around a bureaucratic system. Director Shankar always deals with relevant societal issues in his movies. We don’t know much about the story and theme of his new film with Ram Charan, but the theme poster had given an idea that Ram Charan plays a civil servant.

Sai Dharam Tej and Nithin as collectors

Sai Dharam Tej’s upcoming release, Republic, is all about the conflict between a civil servant and a political leader. Sai Dharam Tej has played the role of Panja Abhiram, an IAS officer. Set in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, he is a collector of district in Andhra Pradesh in the film. 

The film also has Jagapathi Babu playing the civil servant. 

‘Macharla Niyojakavargam’ is the recently launched film starring Nithiin as the hero. As the title says, it is a political drama. Directed by newcomer SR Sekhar, it projects Nithin as an upright collector. For the first time, Nithiin playing such a government officer’s role.

Heroine as an IAS officer

‘Akhanda’ has Pragya Jaiswal playing an IAS officer. In this Boyapati’s third film with Balakrishna, Pragya appears as a civil servant who helps the hero achieving his mission. 

MROs or state government officers

We have recently seen Nani playing a Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) in ‘Tuck Jagadish’. He dramatically appears in this role midway proclaiming as ‘Mental Rowdy Officer’. 

Ravi Teja will next be seen in a similar role in ‘Ramarao on Duty’. Directed by Sarath Mandava, the film sees Ravi Teja playing an honest Group-2 officer.
