23 Hyderabad theatres shift to percentage-based system

Multiplex chains across India have long been following a percentage-based revenue sharing model with producers, based on individual film agreements. In cities like Hyderabad, where multiplexes dominate, several prominent single-screen theatres still operate in prime commercial locations.

Amid rising operational costs and evolving distribution dynamics, Telangana exhibitors have now decided to move away from the traditional rental model. Starting April 3, 2026, they are adopting a percentage-based revenue system.

Leading distributors and exhibitors such as Suneil Narang, Sirish Reddy, and Bobby have backed this move and informed the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce about the decision.

However, Mythri Movie Makers’ distributor Sashidhar Reddy has not agreed to the new system. As a result, theatres under his control, including Vimal and a few others, have opted out.

As of now, 23 single-screen theatres in Hyderabad have implemented the new model. According to the agreement, the revenue share will be 60% in the first week, 50% in the second week, and 40% in the third week for distributors/exhibitors.
