NTR’s “Devara” is causing a stir at the North American box office. The film grossed $3 million from Thursday premiere shows and early Friday sales.
This is the fourth biggest opening for any Indian film after “RRR,” “Kalki 2898 AD,” and “Baahubali 2.” All are Telugu films only.
Interestingly, NTR’s highest grossing movies in North America were “Aravinda Sametha” and “Nannaku Prematho,” which both collected $2 million plus in their entire lifetime. But “Devara” grossed nearly $3 million from premiere shows alone.
Despite mixed reviews, “Devara” is having a dream run at the box office. The film proved that NTR with the right buzz and hype can bring in huge openings. All he needs is a strong film. It remains to be seen what would be the lifetime gross of “Devara Part 1.”.
Directed by Koratala Siva, the film starred Janhvi Kapoor as the heroine.
