Dil Raju admits collection posters are mostly inflated or fake

For years, inflated box-office collection posters have been a talking point in the Telugu film industry. While media outlets and trade analysts have frequently questioned the authenticity of these figures, producers have largely remained silent on the issue.

Veteran producer Dil Raju has now made a candid admission. In a recent interview, he acknowledged that the collection numbers publicized for many films are often exaggerated.

According to him, the actual collections of a star hero’s film are known only to the producer. However, the industry finds itself caught in a cycle where one film’s reported numbers are used as a benchmark for another. As a result, producers feel compelled to project bigger figures to satisfy the egos of stars and their fan bases.

Dil Raju also touched upon the growing culture of fan wars, stating that such collection announcements are often made to appease certain sections and maintain the perception of supremacy among rival fan groups.

Speaking about the economics of filmmaking, he pointed out that hero remunerations have become a major factor behind escalating budgets. He noted that in many pan-India projects, a leading star’s remuneration can account for as much as 40 percent of the total budget.

According to him, soaring star salaries have contributed to higher production costs, increased ticket prices, and a decline in theatre footfalls.
