Puri Jagannadh has delivered another dud. He had invested heavily on ‘Mehbooba’, his son’s maiden film as lead actor. The film not only took low ratings from critics, it also got thumbs down from the paying public. Made with approximate Rs 18 Cr budget, the film is seeing 80 percent losses from theatrical revenue. Only solace is satellite and digital rights. Even then, Puri Jagannadh and Charmee (she is co-producer of the movie) will be losing more than Rs 12 Cr.
This is a big blow to Puri Jagannadh who is already going through bad phase. He recently cleared off all the debts by selling off some assets and he also sold his Jubilee Hills house to make this ‘Mehbooba’. He has made the film with utmost sincerity but the subject is too heavy for a debutant hero and it lacked coherence.
Moreover, it was not publicized properly. The publicity strategy was horribly bad.
Puri is a good writer but he needs to take a break for some time and think afresh.
