Veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has a word of advice for today’s filmmakers: don’t invest in VFX just for the sake of it.
Speaking on the YouTube podcast The Filmy Hustle, the maverick director shared his views on the increasing trend of VFX-heavy productions in Telugu and Indian cinema.
Ram Gopal Varma remarked that modern films are beginning to look alike due to their excessive reliance on high-end production values and visual effects. According to him, this trend is compromising the emotional depth of storytelling.
“Post-Baahubali, there’s a mindset that spending more on production values and VFX will automatically impress the audience,” he said. “But these artificial production values are cutting into the emotions of the story. That’s what’s happening in most films today.”
Ram Gopal Varma, known for revolutionizing Telugu cinema with cult classics like Shiva, Kshana Kshanam, and Gaayam, continues to voice his unfiltered opinions on contemporary filmmaking trends.
