Ilaiyaraaja creates history with ‘Valiant’ symphony debut

Maestro Ilaiyaraaja revolutionized South Indian film music when he debuted in the 1970s, crafting countless iconic songs and timeless albums throughout his illustrious career.

Renowned for seamlessly blending Indian melodies with Western symphonies, he has set numerous records and continually pushed musical boundaries.

Now, he has etched his name in history once again – this time in London.

On March 8, 2025, Ilaiyaraaja premiered his first full-length Western classical symphony, Symphony No. 1—Valiant, at the Eventim Apollo in London. This groundbreaking event marked the first time an Indian artist had composed a complete Western classical symphony in the UK.

The performance was met with widespread acclaim, with fans and admirers celebrating Ilaiyaraaja’s extraordinary achievement and his enduring legacy in the world of music.
